Villa Tour

269 Morcellement Palmyre
Flic en Flac
Mauritius

This three bedroom, two bathroom house is well-furnished and completely equipped. All rooms are on the ground floor, except for a small laundry room and large deck above.

Villa Tour is located in a subdivision of Flic en Flac and has views of the ocean, and a swimming pool.

The subdivision ("morcellement") named "Palmyre", is on the East edge of Flic en Flac, with cane fields to the East and the Indian Ocean to the West. All of the lots were purchased many years ago. People build houses when they have saved up enough money; mortgages are rarely taken to fund construction. This explains why fewer than half of the lots have homes, and why some of the homes are only partly built, with the owners waiting to save more money before continuing to build.

Views of Villa Tour

This section has exterior pictures of the house itself, taken from three different directions, and also a view of the pool area.

This picture was taken from across the street, looking South towards the house.

The roof forms a large deck, with great views of the ocean. The small room holds the washing machine. On top of its roof is the solar hot water heater.

The lot extends a bit to the West (towards the righthand side of the picture), where the pool area is at the West end of the house. Just off the picture is a gate that you could back into to unload the car near the kitchen. The wall is then higher around the pool area.

Villa Tour taken from the Northeast corner, facing SSW

This picture is of the pool area, and was taken by standing next to the high wall along the North side of the property, near the West end, and holding the camera up high above the head while standing on tiptoe.

The pool area is raised a few steps above ground level, so the wall which appears fairly low from within, is actually much higher from without.

This is the main entrance gate.

You can see that although the wall is not very high here, it is high enough to offer privacy even if the front door were propped open.

You can see the name "Villa Tour" and the house number "269" on the plaque beside the gate. Also prominently displayed is a warning that the house is protected by a 24 hour security system.

This picture is of the East end of the house, showing the mailbox and electric meter.

Just to the left and barely out of the picture is the gate to a single parking spot at the Southeast corner of the lot.

The picture shows the high wall on the North side, towards the West end of the lot.

The pool area is on the other side of this wall, with the street behind the photographer.

Neighboring houses

These are pictures taken from Villa Tour of neighboring houses, giving you some idea of your neighbors, for the most part empty lots.

This house is directly across the street at the East end of the house.

The block opposite the house on the street to the North is mostly empty lots.

Looking North from front gate of Villa Tour

There is an empty lot on the West side, then a house which appears to be vacant.

You can also see that the lot on the South side (lefthand side of picture) is empty.

View looking West from Southwest corner of Villa Tour wall

Looking South from the Southwest corner of the wall around the lot, you can see the nearest construction site.

On the lefthand side of the picture, you can see two empty lots on the South, then the house of a nephew of the owner, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Proximity of our house

Our house is white with red trim, and is a couple of blocks away to the North of Villa Tour.

This picture is looking South from our front gate, down the road which runs along the East end of the Villa Tour.

The Villa Tour is the low-profile yellow house with brown trim in the center of the picture.

The mountain dimly visible above the house after the Villa Tour is Le Morne Brabant, an iconic Mauritian landmark located at the Southwest corner of the island.

These pictures show the distance to the nearest construction site, and how this might impact visibility into the pool area.

This is the high wall on the North side of the lot which shields the pool area from the street. It is at least six feet high at this point.

A working construction site

This site is across the road to the West of our house and shows the nature of a construction site. The tools used are hand tools, so other than delivery of materials, there is very little noise involved.

This picture was taken from our front porch, showing a constuction site across the road to the West.
